Two hikers who were stranded in Ras Al Khaimah's Wadi Quda'ah have been airlifted to safety.

A search and rescue operation was launched by the Ras Al Khaimah Police who received an emergency call on Wednesday afternoon.

The trekkers, aged 16 and 17, were tracked down in a rugged mountainous area with one of them suffering from extreme heat exhaustion.

He was given the necessary first-aid and the pair were later transferred to Saqr Hospital for further examination.

Major Abdullah Al Saman, head of search and rescue department at Ras Al Khaimah Police, urged people to exercise caution while heading to mountainous areas, especially during summer.

He also called on hikers to carry sufficient quantities of water to avoid exhaustion.
