The latest edition of a council made up entirely of children is set to begin its first session in Sharjah on Wednesday. The 14th edition of the Sharjah Children Council (SCC) includes 77 children aged 8-12 and will be led by 14-year-old president Jamila Hassan Al Za'abi. They will serve a term of two years. The aim of the council is to expose children to the parliamentary process and prepare them for the future generation, said Reem BinKaram, Manager of the General Department of the Sharjah Children Centres. “The council’s experience reflects the visionary leadership which seeks to prepare and equip young Emirati citizens to take leadership roles and understand the complexities of governing from a young age,” she added.
