Nearly 56,000 COVID-19 violations detected in UAE in a month

As many as 55,966 violations of COVID-19 precautionary measures were reported in the UAE in February.

Failure to wear masks was the most common offence (47%), followed by shops and commercial establishments not complying with the preventative measures (20.5%).

The other violations were linked to non-compliance with physical distancing rules (17.5%), exceeding the number of people allowed in a vehicle (8%), and random gatherings (4.5%).

The figures were revealed during the government's latest media briefing.

Dr. Saif Al Dhaheri, official spokesperson of the National Crisis and Emergency Management Authority (NCEMA), said the UAE is witnessing a gradual decrease in the COVID-19 infection rates over the past two weeks, which is a positive sign on the road to recovery.

He added that the health sector is getting ready to launch and operate seven field hospitals this month, with a total capacity of 2,058 beds, of which 292 are for critical cases.

Dr. Al Dhaheri also revealed that the COVID-19 vaccine has been provided to 3,777,143 people, in the UAE, which is 48.71 per cent of the targeted group.

Meanwhile, the number of COVID-19 tests carried out in the country, exceeds 32 million.
