National Olympic Committee closes Board of Directors nominations

The UAE’s National Olympic Committee (NOC) has closed nominations for its Board of Directors elections after receiving all applications from eligible candidates.

The application period opened last month and has now reached capacity, as confirmed in a statement from the head of the Election Commission Omar Muhammad Miran.

Candidate applications for three categories were received for the seat of the President, the seat of Olympic and non-Olympic sports federations, and the seat of women. Miran stressed that the Election Commission is carrying out its functions in accordance with the specified timeline for the election procedures, which have gone through several stages.

The Election Commission meets multiple times a week to monitor developments until the elections are held on the August 22.

When elected, the NOC Board of Directors will consist of 17 members including the President, nine members from the Olympic federations, a member from the non-Olympic federations affiliated with the International Sports Federations recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), one member representing the women's category, one member representing the Athletes Commission, and four members to be nominated by the President of the NOC and approved by the General Assembly.
