Investigations underway after Al Hamriyah Port fire fully contained

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of a major fire that raged on for nearly 24 hours at Sharjah's Al Hamriyah Port.

In an update on national news agency Wam, Sharjah's Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management team confirmed that the fire, which was ignited by petrochemical products stored on site, was fully contained at 6:25 am on Sunday.

It took specialised teams' structured coordination and "precise task execution" to put out the fire that was reported at 6:10 am on Saturday and prevent it from spreading to neighbouring facilities.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

Major General Abdullah Mubarak bin Amer, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police and Head of Emergency, Crisis, and Disaster Management team, said specialised technical teams from forensic and laboratory departments will determine the cause of the fire and assess the damages in coordination with concerned entities.

The results will be released after all technical and laboratory procedures are completed, he added.

Major General Amer said Sharjah's response teams were assisted by crew from Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Interior, National Guard, National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority, civil defence departments across the UAE, Joint Aviation Command and Abu Dhabi National Oil Company.

Cooling operations are being carried out at the site, the official added.
