A new initiative has been launched by Dubai Culture to collect and exhibit diverse artworks with a connection to the emirate.

'Dubai Collection' has been developed with the aim of enriching the emirate's artistic landscape, documenting its history and consolidating its position as a global cultural hub.

It will also bring together key stakeholders in the industry to create a unique platform for developing the art community and the creative economy.

Operating under the auspices of the government, the Dubai Collection has been developed in collaboration between Dubai Culture and Art Dubai.

It will initially feature the personal art collection of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The Dubai Collection will be governed by a Steering Committee chaired by Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture).

Public and private entities, as well as individuals, are invited to contribute by either acquiring artworks for loaning to the collection or lending artworks from their own collections.

Contributors will be recognised as ‘patrons’ and maintain full ownership of their loaned artworks. They are also invited to lend their artworks to the Dubai Collection to be displayed at curated temporary exhibitions both in Dubai and across the world.

There are also plans for a year-round publicity campaign to promote the work of UAE artists and the galleries that exhibit them.
