Microsoft is cutting nearly 2,000 jobs at its struggling smartphone business. Most of the 1,850 job losses will come in Finland, part of a legacy of Microsoft’s $7 billion acquisition of parts of Nokia three years ago. The global tech leader, led by two-year chief executive Satya Nadella, will also write down write down $950 million from the business. The Nokia acquisition was part of Microsoft's plan to take on mobile market leaders Apple and Samsung. But Nadella has shifted away focus from the phone business, starting with a 2015 restructuring that put the devices group under the Windows group.
